In this course we will be looking into various approaches instructors can use to foster intercultural understanding and communicative competence. Students will be gaining insight into specific tools for teaching and exploring culture, linked with research on intercultural communication. In this seminar we will be covering tips and activities for dealing with topics such as exploring culture, culture and language, culture and nonverbal communication, culture and identity, culture shock, different ways of teaching culture, culture and education, and culture and social responsibility. Students are expected to participate regularly and actively by giving student-centred, interactive presentations on texts from the main course reading as well as on additional media and material.
