This course specifically focuses on foreign language education at primary level to cater for the specific needs of young language learners. The course builds on the fundamental concepts of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) which students studied in FD1. In particular, students develop their method skills for the primary EFL classroom in this regard: (1) Objectives, standards and models of teaching English to young learners, (2) selecting teaching methods and learning resources for this particular target group, (3) implementing these adequately in a variety of prototypical classroom situations and (4) developing classroom-specific language skills (e.g. classroom management, praise & feedback). Throughout the course students develop their reflective skills. At the same time students begin to develop diagnostic competence as well as inclusive language teaching skills. Students are expected to thoroughly prepare and actively participate in each sessions. Students required to take an oral exam after completing the module FD 2 (oral exam in combination with the second seminar of this module). |
