This class will use a variety of formats – including (guest) lectures from partners in the AURORA University Alliance, collaborative online international learning (COIL), directed student research, and (time permitting) field work – to examine what a European approach to North American Studies may look like. How can we in Europe and specifically in Germany, the Ruhr area, Essen, but also in the Netherlands, France, Austria, Spain etc. practice American Studies on site? Answers may range from identifying traces of North American culture, politics, etc. in Europe and analyzing transatlantic relationships through the ages to discussing the cultural production of immigrants from Germany, the Netherlands, France, etc.
This class will allow students to improve their Information Literacy, Analysis, Oral and Written Communication, Teamwork, and Intercultural Knowledge competences. |
