Since the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2009, the provision of inclusive education has become one of the main tasks of teachers and school administration. In this context, considering the heterogeneity and diversity of learners, teachers, parents and all other educational stakeholders are of fundamental importance. Thus, EFL teachers are required to teach English catering for the needs of all learners. However, this usually poses the following questions: How can EFL teachers design the inclusive EFL classroom? What challenges do they encounter? How can they cater for the needs of all learners? How does the objective of inclusive education impact on principles and methods of EFL education?
This seminar addresses these questions by dealing with fundamental issues of inclusive EFL education. Therefore, in this seminar student teachers will (1) study basic concepts of inclusive education, special educational needs and dimensions of heterogeneity; (2) gain an overview of concepts of inclusive teaching in the EFL classroom; and (3) put theory into practice by participating in various forms of project work. The overarching goal of this seminar is to give future EFL teachers an introduction to inclusive EFL education and equip them with a basic tool kit for their own (inclusive) teaching. |
