Approaching work at the university level requires comprehensive preparation. From designing their own research questions to carrying out their own studies or composing their very first term papers, students require a comprehensive set of skills to meet the demands of their academic degree programs. This course is designed to help students develop the type of horizontal skills required for the diverse fields in Anglophone Studies: critical and creative thinking, inquiry and analysis, problem solving, information literacy, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and written communication to name a few. In both theoretical and practical ways, students will establish a solid understanding of how to participate in academic discussions, prepare challenging course work, carry out independent research, ethically and correctly cite secondary sources, and structure and write term papers. Throughout this process, students will assemble a portfolio with all these valuable guides, which they can return to during their academic careers. |
