This course will introduce students to key themes and developments relating to Chinese society. The focus is on grasping the nuances of dominant social processes in Chinese society and uncovering the institutional arrangements and transformations that underpin them.
This course aims to provide students with the background knowledge and conceptual frameworks necessary to develop their understanding of sociological topics related to China. The lectures will touch upon the following topics: Confucianism, filial piety and family, education, work environment, social class and stratification, social norms and everyday interactions, gender roles, urbanisation, ethnic relations, and religion, and one lecture will also be dedicated to Taiwanese society.
Aside from the discussion of an academic text, other interactive materials such as videos and other media inputs will be used. |
