This course introduces students to different ways of queering their future English language classrooms. Firstly, participants will dive into critical pedagogies and reflect on how these play out language education. This includes acquiring knowledge about the intricate relationship between language(s), identity, privilege and discrimination. Students will then look at different genders and sexual identities in order to develop an understanding of the queer community. The main part of the course focusses on queer-informed language education. Students will learn how to raise awareness for LGBTQIA+ issues and topics, ensure visibility of queerness and deconstruct heteronormativity. Later, Students will get to know innovative methods and work with different materials aimed at challenging traditional norms and dismantling stereotypes, fostering a transformative and empowering language learning experience for all students and teachers. In the final part of the course, student will take action and develop their own projects, that fight homo- and transphobia (including all other forms of hate against queer people) and tackle heteronormativity. |
