Victorian Britain was a time full of adventure – at least for the privileged few! In a world that seemed to become smaller (because more and more parts were explored and the blank spots on world maps filled), some Victorian adventures started seeking new fictional worlds in space, in time, or inside the earth. In this seminar we will have a look at depictions of new worlds (and their inhabitants) in a colonial context. Literature will be made available. |
