Course description
In 2018, the Japanese government has decided to implement the Japanese immigration bill to facilitate the entrance of foreign migrants/workers. The country is/has been considered itself as “non-migration” country, and this policy change could be a shift for Japan. However, it does not mean that there were no foreign residents/workers in this country before this change. In this course, we will look at various cases of foreign workers/residents in this country.
Course objectives
This course is a part of the Module “Institutions and Organizations in Japan.” This course targets MA and the later stage of BA students. Though the main topic of this class is migration (to Japan), this course aims at reading academic articles critically and to write a paper at the end of the semester.
Class format
This class is a paired module with “Research on Japanese Institutional Change,” and you are required to participate in both classes.
This course follows seminar-style, mainly with (a) student’s presentation(s) and discussion following the presentation. The discussion will be based on the student’s presentation.
