Based on this constitutional order, students will be familiarized with the most important institutions of the political system (polity). In this context, we will also discuss the specificities of German federalism, interest representation and party system. Formal institutional aspects will be complemented with informal norms to gain a comprehensive perspective on policy making processes in Germany (politics).
A T T E N T I O N
Apart from incoming students, this course is geared towards regular students who are interested in reading and discussing English academic literature in general. As such, the course can be seen as the starting point for a "track" of English language seminars in the modules on the European Union ("Europäische Integration und Politik im europäischen Mehrebenensystem") and comparative politics ("Vergleichende Analyse politischer Systeme und Kulturen") (2. und 3. Studienjahr). These courses complement each other providing introductions to the political systems of Germny and the EU as well as the effects of European integration on the political systems of the Member States (Europeanisation).
