Scope:
The aim of understanding Politics of the European Union is linked to its complex governance structure. It presents the EU as an emerging "political system", in which the government, policies and the politics of the system are inextricably linked. It looks at the way the EU is analysed and studied and provides comprehensive coverage of EU politics and a method of conceptualizing the EU comparatively. The course will confront students with the latest academic findings in the field of EU governance.
After a brief introduction in EU-history and the institutions which build the system "sui generis", we will discuss in detail the outcome and consequences of the European elections 2019, topics like Euroscepticism and Common Foreign and Security Policy and the debate around the Future of Europe.

Method:
Due to its size the lecture will be a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous sequences. There will be some video conferencing, but also short recorded lectures by me, podcasts and webinars, texts to read and work on in groups, a little quiz here and there, and exchanges in a discussion board. |
