This lecture will concentrate on the great texts of medieval England, texts that may allow us to reconstruct medieval English culture. Among others, we will dig into the great Old English epic Beowulf and other anonymous texts such as the Old English elegies. Middle English literature will be represented by love lyrics and the major works of Geoffrey Chaucer. A reader with relevant material will be available at the beginning of the semester. |
